The PURPOSE of UnionAvenueBaptistChurch is to GLORIFY GOD by becoming an
AUTHENTIC BIBLICAL COMMUNITY that
KNOWS CHRIST and MAKES HIM KNOWN.
Glorify God
Creator God made each one of us to glorify Him and to enjoy Him for all eternity. In fact, we will be most fulfilled as Christians when we are glorifying Him in every area of our lives (Jonathan Edwards, John Piper).
1 Cor 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Authentic Biblical Community
This is our way of saying we want to be a real church which mirrors the New Testament church in action.
Acts 2:42-47 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Knowing Christ
We are commanded to know (fully know) Christ in all fullness to maturity. As we become an Authentic Biblical Community, it is essential to embrace the truth of Scripture and grow in our love and knowledge of Christ as much as possible.
Matt 22:37-40, Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Making Him Known
Each one of us as Christians are called to be God’s missionary wherever we may live. Our motto here at Union Avenue is “Each One Reach One” with the gospel of Jesus Christ. As we “intake” His Word we are simultaneously called to be ambassadors for the ministry of reconciliation.
Matt 28:18-20, Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
