Union Avenue Baptist Church
Thursday, September 09, 2010

Union Avenue Baptist Church (UABC) began in 1902 as 3 ladies caught a vision to begin a church in the Lenox Community (then a suburb of Memphis).  Originally called the Lenox Baptist Church, the church purchased land in 1904 at the corner of Union Avenue and Summit and subsequently changed the name to Union Ave. Baptist Church.

Since then the church has seen its share of ups and downs.  The church has been known throughout the years as a very traditional Southern Baptist church.  We are in good standing with both the local and state Baptist associations, and we are in good standing with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Today, we are experiencing a transition.  We are asking ourselves what it means to be a gospel-centered, relevant church in the Midtown and downtown Memphis communities.  Our ministry passion to become an Authentic Biblical Community has meant embracing change.  Although the truth of our teaching is gospel and Bible-centered, we are currently updating our methods and approach.  Our worship style is more of a mix of traditional and contemporary songs and the teaching is in-depth but personable.  We want our focus to be on the hope and forgiveness found in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Are we perfect?  No, and we amdit that we are all broken and in need of Christ's forgivneness.  We invite you to jump on board with us as we seek to share the love of Christ in Midtown and beyond.

"We are in the city for the city."
