Alpha and Omega
Ever found yourself flipping back through an old journal or scrolling to the first photo on your phone’s camera roll, just to see how far you’ve come? There’s something powerful about looking back—and something equally sobering about wondering what lies ahead. We like beginnings. We try to control endings. But what if there’s Someone who holds both in His hands?
Revelation 22:13 gives us one of the most awe-inspiring self-descriptions of Jesus: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end” (CSB). These aren’t just titles—they are eternal truths that stretch across every moment of our lives. From the instant time began to the second it ends, Jesus stands sovereign. He’s not just in our story; He is the story.
In the chaos of our daily schedules, it’s easy to forget that our lives have divine structure. Psalm 90:2 reminds us, “From eternity to eternity, you are God.” This isn’t metaphorical language—this is reality. Before the mountains were formed, before your first breath, God was already reigning. And when our calendars run out and history closes, He’ll still be seated on the throne. That truth isn’t meant to intimidate; it’s meant to comfort. You're never drifting aimlessly when your life begins and ends in Him.
Colossians 1:16–17 tells us that “everything was created by him... and by him all things hold together.” That includes your job, your marriage, your doubts, and your dreams. Jesus didn’t just create the world—He sustains it. He sustains you. When your plans fall apart, when your body is weak, when your emotions don’t make sense—He’s still holding the center. You may feel like your life is unraveling, but in Christ, nothing truly falls apart.
Daniel 7 paints a prophetic picture of Jesus coming in power, establishing a kingdom that “will not be destroyed.” Every human empire, trend, and voice will fade—but His rule is everlasting. In a culture that’s constantly shifting, this gives us rock-solid assurance. We’re not living for a fading world. We’re living under the reign of a King whose timeline has no expiration date.
And it gets even more personal. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word... and the Word was God.” Jesus wasn’t just a part of God’s plan—He is the plan. From the beginning of time, He was already preparing to enter the world as flesh, to rescue, redeem, and restore. That means you don’t have to earn His love or guess at your purpose. Your life was authored by the Word Himself, and He’s faithful to complete what He’s begun in you.
So how do we live like Jesus is our Alpha and Omega? We surrender our anxious grip on the unknown. We invite Him into our present with confidence. We stop trying to rewrite the past or force the future and instead walk with the One who sees the whole picture. Because when Jesus is the first and the last, we don’t have to carry the burden of knowing everything in between.
Maybe today you feel stuck between what was and what’s yet to be. Take heart—He’s already there. Let His presence cover your past, give meaning to your present, and anchor your future. When you live in light of the Alpha and the Omega, you realize that every moment is held in His eternal hands. That’s not just theology—it’s peace for today, and hope for tomorrow.
