Risky

“Time is running out to tell your story.”

When you meet someone new, what’s the first thing you share—your job, where you’re from, maybe something about your family? Those are all good things. But if you’re a follower of Jesus, your faith is the defining part of your story. So why is it often the hardest part to talk about?

That’s what our new sermon series RISK is all about. It’s an invitation—a challenge, really—to embrace the bold and beautiful calling of evangelism. Not with polished speeches or perfect answers, but with real, honest stories of what Christ has done in our lives.

Evangelism Is Risky

This Sunday, we’re kicking things off with a powerful look at Ruth 3:1–18—a passage that’s all about stepping out in faith, even when it feels risky.

Think about Ruth’s situation. Approaching Boaz in the middle of the night wasn’t just unconventional—it was dangerous. She risked rejection, judgment, and misunderstanding. But she also demonstrated deep trust in God’s provision. In a similar way, sharing your faith can feel like exposing your heart, not knowing how the other person will respond. But what if the risk is exactly what God wants?

“Spread your cloak over me,” Ruth said (Ruth 3:9 CSB). That’s not just bold—it’s a request for covering, protection, and redemption. When we share our testimony, we’re stepping into that same vulnerability, trusting God to guide the outcome.

Boaz, too, had something to lose—his reputation, inheritance, even his standing in the community. Yet he responded with kindness and generosity. Why? Because he saw the hand of God at work. Evangelism isn’t just about speaking truth; it’s about living love, even when it costs us something.

So Here’s the Real Question...

  • What’s stopping you from sharing your story?

  • Are you afraid of awkwardness, rejection, or not knowing the right words?

  • Who around you needs to hear how Christ changed your life?

Evangelism isn’t reserved for the spiritually elite or theologically trained. It’s the calling of every believer. It’s about sharing what God has done in your life—plain and simple. And yes, it can be uncomfortable. But it’s also the very thing God uses to change hearts.

Just Like Ruth and Boaz...

They each took a risk. And through their courage, God moved. He redeemed. He provided.

This week, take a moment to reflect:

  • Who took a risk to share Jesus with you?

  • What’s one small step you can take this week to pass that same courage forward?

Let your faith speak—not just in words, but in how you serve, love, and show up for people. That’s evangelism, too.
